Get Ready to Read With Washi Tape Bookmarks

When I logged onto Facebook this morning I was bombarded by my friends' First Day of School pics. We've still got a couple weeks, but it will be here before we know it. Back to school means school supplies, new schedules and daily reading logs. To help get kids excited about logging all those reading hours, how about you set them loose on creating their own washi tape bookmarks?

This is one of our easier crafts, perfect for designers of all ages and abilities. All you need to get started is some card stock, a pair of scissors, and a box of our Hearts & Crafts Premium Washi Tape. Optional supplies include craft punches, a hole punch and any other embellishments you desire.

STEP ONE: Take your card stock and cut into a bookmark. Any length/width will do. I don't usually measure -- I just kind of wing it.

STEP TWO: Decide which colors/patterns you want to use and go for it! You can make these as simple or complex as you like.

Here's a simple bookmark I made:

All I did was tape down the bookmark in alternating colors and cut off the excess. Below is a more complex design I made using a flower craft punch.

STEP ONE: Cut out two identical bookmarks from your cardstock.

STEP TWO: Use the craft punch to create your design.

STEP THREE: Line up your two bookmarks and run tape across the section of the solid bookmark that will show through your punches;

STEP FOUR: Cut the excess tape off from the sides of your bookmark.

STEP FIVE: Using a glue stick, apply glue to the bottom layer of card stock. Then place the bookmark with the cutouts on top and press firmly. Voila!

Now all you need to do is find a good book and a cozy place to read. ;)
