Washi Tape Letters

My kids had so much fun crafting these darling washi tape letters for their bedrooms. You could do the letter of their first name, their initials, or their entire name -- depending on how much space you have. Best of all, these letters are cheap, easy and fun to craft.

Here's what you'll need to make your own:

-A wooden or cardboard letter

-Scissors or an Xacto knife

-Mod Podge

-Foam Craft Brush

-Craft Paint

The "L" I bought at Joann's for a couple bucks. The "C" I got at Walmart for about $2. Everything else I already had floating around at home.

STEP ONE: Pick out the washi tape colors you want to use on your letter. I like to mix solids and patterns, but that's just my personal preference. Also, decide which direction you want your tape to do. My favorites are diagonal, horizontal and vertical, but the options are endless.

STEP TWO: This step is optional. The sides of my cardboard "L" are about 1" tall, so to add a little dimension, I painted the sides of my L with one of the blues from my color palette. If you like the wooden/cardboard look, you can always just leave it plain. That's what I chose to do on the "C" I made later.

STEP THREE: Once your paint has dried, it's time to apply your washi tape! Be sure to press down firmly across each piece of tape to get a nice, clean stick. As in all of my tutorials, I prefer to overtape slightly and then cut off the excess when I'm finished. It's just easier to get a good, clean edge that way.

STEP FOUR: Flip your letter over. Using your scissors or Xacto knife, cut off any excess tape.

STEP FIVE: Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge over your entire creation. Once it's dried, you're done!

The "C" is one of my favorite things we've ever crafted -- and it matches my teenage daughter's room perfectly. Can't wait to add this to her room decor.

If you end up making washi tape letters, drop us a picture so we can see how they turned out. Happy crafting!
